Tamsin:
"It was interesting to discover what spaces we have both been
drawn to during this project; Sarah to nature-made spaces and natural
materials, and I to person-made spaces and hard, sharp materials.
I discovered this space while on a cycle ride along the Leeds Liverpool
canal. This huge, desolate, empty, spacious, vast, open, powerful,
'clean' space left me with a desire to go in there and do something
with it!
I felt dwarfed by the hugeness of it. I moved as my body wanted
to. I was drawn to lying on the ground, sprawled out, embracing
the hugeness, writhing around, sensual."
Sarah:
"Underneath the motorway we moved on a stage of flat white
concrete. The enormous pillars supporting the road gave a sense
of vastness. I wanted to spread myself, to stretch out and meet
the exhilarating rush of traffic over head.
I was aware of moving at a point of intersection, a place where
road, rail and canal interconnect creating a sense of perpetual
journeying. Even our audience was in motion, our impromptu performance
glimpsed by the odd cyclist whizzing past.
I found myself moving swiftly and chaotically, my struggle to breath
in this place forcing me to find a point of stopping. I became aware
of the unhealthyness of the space, car fumes, pigeon feathers and
the white dust, which began to coat us as we moved."
